History of Military Duty for Kenneth N. Cone
1964 – 1965: I joined the United States Air Force at age 17. My basic training was at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, and then I was transferred to Amarillo, Texas, to be trained as a Supply Specialist.
1965 – 1966: I was transferred to Loring AFB, Maine, 12 miles from the Canadian border. I served in the Strategic Air Command for almost a year in supply in support of the B-52 bombers which were primarily loaded with atomic weapons.
March 1966 – September 1967: I was assigned to the 4252 Strategic Wing of the Strategic Air Command on the island of Okinawa. While here, I was in supply directly serving the KC-135 which refueled the B-52 bombers flying out of Guam and the Philippines.
September 1967 – 1969: I was transferred to Barksdale AFB located in Bossier City, Louisiana. While serving at this base, I was supply sergeant for the headquarters Second Air Force.
1969: I received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force.
Following my time on active duty, I served in the Air Force reserves for 1 year.
