Dean Alan Karlovich, a devoted husband, loving father, and passionate advocate for the natural world, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born on August 9, 1961, in Villa Park, Illinois. Dean is survived by his beloved wife, Diane, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage since their wedding on June 28, 1986. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children Jessamyn (Mikey), Erica (Don), Joshua, and Teddy (Payton), as well as his cherished grandchildren Gryffin and Penelope. Dean also had siblings; Shelia (Rory), Jim (Jaqueline), Beth (Mark), Tony (Bethany), and June (Rich).

Dean had a profound passion for the outdoors, notably exemplified during his distinguished career with the United States Forest Service from 2000 to 2013. It was during this time that he found his calling in wildland firefighting, an endeavor that brought him immense fulfillment. Following his service with the Forest Service, Dean continued his professional journey with the Davey Resource Group until his passing.

A proud veteran, Dean honorably served in the United States Navy on the USS Tarawa from 1978 to 1982. His commitment to serving his country was matched only by his dedication to his faith. He was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, finding strength and purpose in his beliefs throughout his life.

Dean's academic achievements were noteworthy as well; he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University in 1999, earning a master of science degree in forestry. This educational background fortified his career in environmental stewardship, allowing him to contribute significantly to the field he loved.

One of Dean's most memorable quotes reflects his character: "If there is one thing they are going to say about me, it's, he knew how to make a good fire." This sentiment captures not only his expertise in firefighting but also his warm and engaging personality.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carol Reedy and Anthony "Tony" Karlovich, and his brother Lou Karlovich. Dean's family will honor his memory with a memorial service to be held at a later date in the DuPage County, Illinois area, where friends and family will gather to reflect on the joy and love he brought into their lives.
