Denitta Gail Mercier was born on November 27, 1972, and passed away on March 15, 2026. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her community, living a life marked by care and commitment.
Denitta recently worked within the state as a parent advocate for kinship care families. She served on the Department for Community Based Services Trusted Advisors Council, helping families in need and making a positive impact through her work.
She loved fishing, baking, cooking, and going to church. These interests brought her joy and were meaningful parts of her life.
Denitta took great pride in taking care of her children and family. She cherished spending her free time with her grandchildren, finding happiness in the moments shared with them.
She is survived by her loving mother, Sharon Persinger, and grandmother, Juanita Marvel. Her spouse, Sonny Mercier. Denitta’s children, Rebecca Lewellyn (and Brian), Ashley Mercier, and Jordan Persinger, carry forward her love and legacy. She is also remembered fondly by her siblings Tony Persinger, Amanda Tucker, and Jennifer Johnson.
Her grandchildren—Lennon Ray Phelps, Beckam Henry Phelps, Daxon Amari Mercier, Remison Earl Mercier, and Chesnie Kay Lewellyn—were a source of great pride and joy to her.
Denitta was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Persinger, as well as her grandparents Clemon Embry, Earl Persinger and Betty Persinger
A Celebration of Life in honor of Denitta will take place on March 28, 2026, 3:00 PM at 137 Mt Olla-Church Road in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. All who knew her and were touched by her kindness are welcome to attend and remember her.
Denitta Gail Mercier’s life was one of care, love, and dedication. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and a community grateful for her contributions. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
