Gary Douglas

December 15, 1942 — May 14, 2024

Gary Richard Douglas, age 81, of Bowling Green, KY died peacefully in hospice on May 14, 2024. His passing has left a huge hole torn in the fabric of his family, who now rely on his wife, Sylvia Douglas (Schmitz) to be their source of strength. His children will miss his irritated "Let's go!" before their vacation trips where he would often make stops at various Civil War battlefields as they traveled. They'll also miss the way he patiently taught his grandkids to water ski on the lake, and the way he evenly measured all sides & dispensed his wise advice in any life situation. The family's favorite memories of Gary seem to center around the water.

Whether sunbathing on the shore, cruising the water in the boat, or slicing through it on skis, the water and the outdoors brought Gary and his family great joy.

Gary was born on December 15, 1942 in Detroit MI. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl Richard Douglas and Martha Jane Douglas (Borden), his sister Carla Lee (Butch) and granddaughter Madison Kowalski. He is survived by his sister Jan Neagles (Wayne), daughters Lorrie Morgan (Scott Ehredt), Elizabeth Douglas, Amy Spader (Mark) and son Jason (Megan) along with his grandchildren Justin & Chase Morgan, Andrew, Jeffrey & Evan Spader and great grandson Jayden Caballero.

Gary was destined for a life of travel and adventure. After graduating from Hannibal HS in Hannibal, Missouri in 1960, he went on to study business at the University of Missouri. Gary became an invaluable business manager.
