Glenna Vickers Burton was born on July 11, 1936 and passed away on July 22, 2019. She was the daughter of Gladys (Botner) and William (Bill) Vickers, KY State Representative. Glenna grew up in Traveller's Rest, KY, helping her father on the farm and taking care of her sister, Judy. She graduated from Owsley County High School and earned a B. S and M. A. E. from Union College in Library Science. She later went on to earn a Rank I in Elementary Education from W. K. U. Glenna took pride in her education-as a member of Phi Gamma Mu and The Society of Iota Sigma Nu. She was a life-long educator as a librarian for 33 years, with 16 years in the Warren County Schools. Glenna had a passion for genealogy, history, and serving the community. Upon retirement, Glenna wrote articles about family genealogy and Kentucky heritage. She was published in the Kentucky Explorer and Owsley County Historical Society Magazine, in which she was an officer. Glenna spent her free time at Riverview at Hobson Grove, in which she served on the board as well as volunteered at the gift shop for 20 years. Glenna enjoyed being with family and friends - an active member of the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program, a proud grandmother, where she was known as ""Mama B,"" and a member of the State Street Methodist Church, where she was a co chairman of Wednesday Night Gathering and held office duties for more than 10 years. Glenna was very proud to be a member of Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), in which she served as a registrar for 7 years, treasurer for 1 year, and historian for 2 years. She was a member of Kentucky Education Association, Warren County Retired Teachers Association, and American Library Association. Glenna is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Don, daughter Jane Blair and husband Bill, son Billy Jeff and wife Robin, sister Judy Spencer and husband, Randall, granddaughter Dana Blair, and her niece, Amber, nephew, Joe, great niece, Emily and great nephew, Caden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Don and Glenna Burton Scholarship at Martin Methodist College 433 West Madison St. Pulaski, TN 38478, Kentucky United Methodist Children's Homes 1115 Ashgrove Road Nicholas, KY 50356 in memory of Glenna Burton or to Union College Scholarships.
