In Loving Memory of Irene D. Smith
Irene D. Smith, a woman of incredible spirit and a true servant’s heart, passed away April 18th, 2026, leaving a legacy of kindness and dedication. Born in 1936 in Los Angeles, California, Irene was the youngest of four children born to Audrey Irene Hawkes and Clyde Edward Dye.
Irene was known for her strong commitment to her community, her family, and her career. She called Paducah, Kentucky, home for 60 years, where she was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She worked for 50 years at People’s First National now) and moved to Bowling Green in 2018. Beyond her banking career, Irene was known for her servant’s heart. She served on the St. Mary High School Board & spent many years serving on the board of the Dream Factory, where her greatest joy was bringing smiles to the faces of children. She was a blessing to everyone who entered her space, happiest when she was helping others, and admired by many for her strong, resilient spirit. She is survived by her children: Tom Smith of Santa Fe, New Mexico, & Audrey Smith Meany (Joe) of Bowling Green.
She was the beloved "Gmom" to her grandchildren: Anna Elizabeth Allen (Wes), Sarah Meany, & Sam Meany. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her family of caregivers—both former and current—at Magnolia Village & Chandler Memory Care. Their love and dedicated care over the past eight years provided comfort and companionship and will not be forgotten.
Irene Diane Dye Smith lived a life full of purpose, faith, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the many lives she touched.
Her life will be honored on Saturday, April 25th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bowling Green, with visitation from 10AM-Noon, with Mass immediately following.
