Jo Ann Sowders, 77, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. Born on September 21, 1948, in Bowling Green, she was the daughter of Golden James and Martha Kitchens, both of whom preceded her in death.

Jo Ann dedicated her professional life to education as a valued member of the Warren County Schools, from which she later retired. Her contributions to the community and the lives of many young people are fondly remembered and celebrated.

A woman of deep faith, Jo Ann was baptized at the tender age of 11 at the West End Church of Christ, where her spiritual journey began. She remained a steadfast member of the South Warren Church of Christ throughout her life, embodying the values of compassion and service in all that she did.

Jo Ann's personal life was enriched by her loving family. She proudly married her devoted husband, Luther Travis Sowders, on February 5, 1967, at the 12th Street Church of Christ, celebrating an incredible 58 years of marriage together. They were blessed with a loving family, including their son, Jason Sowders, who is married to Alicia. Jo Ann joyfully cherished her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren, Lizzie Sowders, Rachel Sowders, Mikaela Sowders, and Jay Poynter, who is married to Elizabeth. She found great delight in taking her grandkids to the mall on Saturday mornings, creating memories that they will hold dear.

An avid walker, Jo Ann embraced the joy of movement and the beauty of the outdoors, often finding peace in her walks. Her warm spirit and kindness touched the lives of those around her, and she will be remembered for her unwavering love and dedication to her family and faith.

Visitation will be held at Cone Funeral Home, located at 1510 Campbell Lane, Bowling Green, KY 42104, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM, also at Cone Funeral Home. Jo Ann will be laid to rest at Bowling Green Gardens, with burial taking place at 1:00 PM that same day.

Jo Ann Sowders leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories, held closely in the hearts of her family and friends. Her gentle spirit will be profoundly missed, but her impact on those who knew her will endure.
