Joe W. Carter, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 21, 2026, at the Southern Kentucky Hospice House. Born on September 17, 1936, in Warren County, Kentucky, Joe’s journey through life was marked by profound love for family, enduring hard work, and a quiet devotion to the simple joys that defined his days.

Joe’s early years in Warren County shaped him into the sincere and steady man so many depended upon. After graduating high school, he went on to serve in the Army—an experience that further instilled in him the values of loyalty, duty, and commitment. These qualities would be woven throughout the tapestry of his life, perhaps most vividly in the way he valued family above all else. As those closest to Joe will remember, his family was everything to him, the heart at the center of all his aspirations and efforts.

Professionally, Joe worked for years as a glass cutter—a craft that demanded precision, patience, and a steady hand. He dedicated himself to his work with the same quiet diligence he brought to every task, earning the admiration of colleagues and providing for the family who meant so much to him.Outside of his career, Joe found joy in simple pleasures. He loved working on lawn mowers, often tinkering away with unwavering focus, and he took gentle care of his animals, making sure they were always well-fed and content. These humble acts spoke volumes about his character—steadfast, nurturing, and ever attentive to those in his care.

Joe’s legacy lives on through his surviving family, whose lives were touched by his kindness and strength: his siblings, Rebecca Ann Nealy (Donald), James Carter (Opal), Richard Carter (Jewell); sister-in-law Mary Helen Carter (wife of the late Roger Carter); his devoted children, Rhelda Beard, Danny Lowe (Sharon), and Donnie Basham (Martha); his grandchildren, Eddie Felts (Kelly), Amanda Keith (Brad), Geoff Ausbrooks, Dustin Carter, and MiKayla Storms (Jacob); and several beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He is now reunited with those who traveled this life before him: his parents, Mary Cakrin Yates Carter and Travis Lester Carter; his cherished spouse, Barbara Lowe; his son, Danny Carter; siblings Travis Carter (Pearl), Roger Carter, Ellis Carter (Sophie), and Eugene Carter (Ramona).

Joe’s absence is deeply felt by all who knew him. In remembering Joe, his family holds close the memory of a man steadfast in love and loyalty, who lived each day guided by care for those around him and pride in honest work. The echo of his laughter and the gentle wisdom of his words will resonate in the hearts of his loved ones for years to come.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Joe at Cone Funeral Home, 1510 Campbell Lane, Bowling Green, KY 42104. Visitation will take place on June 25, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m.
