Lonnie Cook

September 6, 1938 — July 12, 2022

Lonnie Cook, 83, was born on September 6, 1938, in Kona, KY, to the late Curtis Archie Cook and Lillie Cook. He died at home with family at his side in Bowling Green, KY, on July 12, 2022. Besides his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Anna Sharer Cook; and five brothers and sisters, L. C. , Jewell, W. M. , Bobby, and Linda. Lonnie is survived by his daughters, Celeste and Lucinda; his grandson, Joshua, and the light of his life, his great granddaughter Lily Anne. He is also survived by five brothers and sisters, Rita, Vicki, Tommy, Ruby, and Larry; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lonnie’s adventures were larger than life. As a young boy his two older brothers moved his family to Bowling Green from eastern Kentucky to continue their careers as jockeys. Lonnie frequently traveled the racing circuit with his brothers. When Lonnie met Richard Oldham and accepted Christ as his savior his life changed, and he refocused his priorities to serving the Lord and the church. Then Lonnie settled down with his own family and career, and managed several different pursuits: farming, carpenter work, and as a machinist for Cutler Hammer. When Lonnie wasn’t working, he had three favorite activities: talking politics at the Hadley Store in Hadley, KY, growing Avalon sweet corn, and guiding Pheasant hunts in South Dakota. Lonnie had exceptional hand/eye coordination and was an excellent shot and on one occasion was the back up for a celebrity bird hunt being filmed for TV to cover their misses. In addition, Lonnie made time to pursue his love of hunting, fishing, and watching UK Basketball. Lonnie’s family has entrusted his care to Cone Funeral Home (1510 Campbell Ln) and chose cremation. They will host a visitation and Celebration of Lonnie’s Life at the funeral home on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 11 AM to 4 PM. The Visitation will be from 11 AM to 3 PM and the Celebration of Life will begin at 3 PM.
