Mary C. Hunter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and caregiver, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on April 3, 1945, to the late Josephine and Roland Board.

Mary was a loving and devoted woman whose life was centered around the people she loved most. She cherished her family deeply and took great joy in spoiling her grandchildren whenever she could. She leaves behind her children: Mark Hunter, Danny Hunter, and Markita Hunter, who will forever carry her love and memory in their hearts.

Mary was a proud grandmother to Darius, Kyree, Tyler, Taylor, Marcus, Brandon, Brianna, Monae, and Toynika Hunter. Her grandchildren were a special joy in her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Whether she was offering words of wisdom, sharing laughter, or simply enjoying their company, Mary had a way of making her grandchildren feel loved and cared for.

Mary was also one of ten siblings. Among those who will continue to cherish her memory are her sister, April Baker, and her brother, Ernest Boards. Her siblings who passed before her are Roland Boards Jr., Joe Henry Boards, James C. Boards (J.C.), Wesley Boards, Joyce Faye Lawson, and Lendora Smith. The bond she shared with her family was one she treasured throughout her life.

A natural caregiver, Mary dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She had a generous heart and a nurturing spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand and make sure those around her were taken care of. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many.

Mary knew how to have a good time and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing softball and horseshoes, and she could often be found enjoying a lively game of Tonk or Rummy. She also had a special love for the blues, filling her days with music that spoke to her soul. Her laughter, her competitive spirit, and her love of good company created many wonderful memories that her family and friends will hold dear.

Mary's life was enriched by the friendships she formed over the years, including the special bond she shared with her lifetime best friend, Aurora Murrel, and a special person, Autra Beasley, who cared for her during the last months of her life. Their devotion, friendship, and companionship were meaningful parts of Mary's life.

Though Mary has departed this life, her love, laughter, strength, and caring spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Her family and friends will remember her for the love she gave so freely, the joy she found in her grandchildren, her appreciation for good music and good games, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her.

Mary C. Hunter will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing and loving her.
