In memorandum of Richard “Rick” Kornack
Rick, also known as Pops, was one of those rare people who truly changed your life. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, where his parents sang him and his sister Gerry into existence. After growing up, he joined the Air Force. Over his 35-year military career, he trained and worked at Air Force bases all over the country, including Little Rock, Arkansas; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Ellington, Texas; Grissom, Indiana; Robins, GA; Shaw, SC; and even internationally in Thailand. He received lots of praise and awards, including many Performance and Sustained Superior performance rewards, letters of appreciation, and a special C-130 air force maintenance team for Airlift Rodeo 1987, Volant Rodeo 1987, and the Top US Airfare team in the largest area of completion with his 440 unit and the 919 special ops.
Rick had his son Chad Kornack in the 1970’s. Chad graduated from Portland State University and has been with his lifelong partner, Eric, for 26 years.
Rick earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University. He retired from the military in 2002 and settled in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with his best friend, Al Hurlburtt, who also served with him in the Air Force.
Rick and Jamie, his lifelong love, tied the knot in November 2013, and they shared a joyful life until Rick’s passing on March 4th, 2026. Their marriage blessed them with a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Jordan. Jessica was there for their wedding and throughout their lives, eventually marrying Todd Lasater and becoming a beloved grandfather to Ember, Aubrie, Jaxson, and Cameron.
Rick and Al were big Corvette fans, and they both grew their collections. They spent many happy moments together on the road, at home, and at their local Legion. He also loved painting and never turned down a burger. When Rick was diagnosed with Dementia but it didn’t define him; he continued to live life to the fullest and find joy. His passing has left many hearts touched by his infectious positivity and happiness. You always saw a smile on Dad’s face, no matter what he was going through. Even in his final days, his strength inspired so many people, enriching their lives with his laughter, care, kindness, and love.
