Roxie Inez Holland “Proud Spirit Warrior”, age 81, of Woodburn, Kentucky passed away peacefully on
Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Medical Center of Bowling Green with family by her side. Roxie was a loving
wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many.
She was born on May 25, 1942, to the late Hervey Lee Jones and Roxie Bell Groves-Jones in Dunn,
Harnett County, North Carolina. She was the great granddaughter of the late Enoch Emmanual, who was
the first elected chief of the Coharie Indian Tribe in Sampson County, North Carolina and served in that
role from 1911 to 1927.
As a child, she loved spending time at the home of her late grandparents, Massie Lee Emmanuel-Jones

and Hassie Jones. Before she was born, her late grandparents, Claude Eshman Groves and Aggie Carter-
Groves donated the family-owned land and buildings where the school, church, and cemetery were

founded in Dunn, Harnett County, North Carolina. This is where Roxie attended services at the Antioch
Freewill Holiness Church as a child. She also attended the former Maple Grove School until the eighth
grade.
She worked twenty years for the former Scott Tobacco Company in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
She was the Founder and President of Bury the Hatchet Intertribal Council, a former non-profit
organization. This organization led presentations and demonstrations to educate students in surrounding
schools about the Native American culture and traditions.
She was a Tribal Roll member of the Coharie Tribe located in Clinton, Sampson County, North Carolina.
Her handmade Southern Cloth Tear Dress will be donated and proudly displayed in the Sampson County
History Museum.
She had a passion for keeping Native American traditions alive by attending powwows, making
dreamcatchers and jewelry, and teaching others about the culture. She loved watching scary movies,
gardening, and spending time with her family.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald Andrew Holland; two
sisters: Geraldine Kohler and Carol Bowling; and a bonus son, Robbie Holland.
She is survived by her three sisters: Janice Axe, Rebekah Bell, and Catherine Andre; four children: Patricia
Murphy (Gary), Vickie Ahlers (Brett), Donnie Huff (Dovie), and Misti Wilson (JB); three bonus children:
Ronnie Holland, Doug Holland (Crissie), and Brandy Holland; four grandchildren: Nick Murphy (Mary),
Duran Huff (Brandy), Amanda Kinsler (John), and Jayce Wilson; six bonus grandchildren: Ashley Huff (AJ),
Katelynn Holland (Melissa), Destiny Holland (Richard), Curtis Holland, Jayden Holland, and Elijah Holland;
three great grandchildren: Wendolyn Kinsler, Penelope Kinsler, and Victoria Kinsler; and a bonus great
grandchild, Everlee Gill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family has entrusted Cone Funeral Home with arrangements of their loved one. The family will have
a Celebration of Life Memorial that will be take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
