IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Willard Edward
Winkenhofer Jr.
June 10, 1947 – December 10, 2025
Willard Edward Winkenhofer Jr., affectionately known as Eddie, was born on June 10, 1947, in the charming locale of Bowling Green, Kentucky. After a fulfilling life that touched so many, Eddie departed this world on December 10, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and an indomitable spirit.
Eddie was a man of many hats—his devotion to community service was evident throughout his life. Serving with honor in the National Guard for six years, he exemplified the spirit of dedication and responsibility. He was an avid pilot who loved the freedom of the sky and the intricate mechanics of airplanes. His professional journey led him to become an EMT, and then he ventured into the insurance business, showcasing his versatility and commitment to helping others prepare for the uncertainties of life.
His leadership was felt far and wide as the President of the International Center in Bowling Green, where he served diligently on the board and as a city council member in Berea, KY when he owned a funeral home there. Eddie approached every task with a joyful heart, never failing to greet anyone he met with kindness, earning the reputation that he never met a stranger.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Eddie embraced life with exuberance. He had a deep affection for the Blue Bird Cafe, which he appreciated for both its live performances and camaraderie. His love for dogs and his pets enriched his life, often radiating warmth and affection that mirrored his zest for life itself.
On July 18, 1994, Eddie achieved one of his proudest accomplishments when he married Darlene Winkenhofer in a heartfelt ceremony in Colorado. They shared a beautiful partnership, rooted in love and mutual respect. Eddie was a proud father to three children: Willard "Will" E. Winkenhofer III and his spouse Kara, Cyril “Cy” Winkenhofer and his spouse Laura Turner, and his daughter Hillary Shepherd and her spouse Phillip. He was blessed with an endearing troop of grandchildren: Savannah, Luke, Cyril, Sara “Sadie” Winkenhofer, and Palmer and Sloane Shepherd who filled their home with laughter and joy.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Willard Edward Winkenhofer Sr. and Margaret Elaine Winkenhofer, whose spirits undoubtedly welcomed him back with open arms.
The memories of Eddie will forever linger in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation will be held on December 15, 2025, at Cone Funeral Home in Bowling Green, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. He will then be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Eddie's radiant spirit and loving demeanor will be missed, but the impacts of his life will continue to resonate within the community he cherished and the family he adored. He has left a legacy of kindness, service, and a genuine love for life that inspires us all to carry forward in his honor. He is in his heavenly home forever and we will see him again.
