William Martin

November 2, 1952 — February 22, 2022

William Gary Martin, 69, was born November 2, 1952, in Fairmont, WV, to the late Jennings and Frances Arlene Martin. After a brief battle with cancer, William departed this life in the early hours of Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his home in Bowling Green, KY. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his brothers, Lil' Jennings “Bing Bing” Martin, Hastings Martin, and Robin Martin. William is survived by his beloved bride of seventeen years, Sheila Martin, and their beloved dog, Enoch. He is also survived by his son, Eric Sean Martin (Mary); two grandsons, Ethan Martin, and Aiden Martin; one sister, Connie Twila Martin; and one brother, Jerry Martin. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Martin was a welder by trade and worked in a number of places throughout his career, including such diverse locations as the coal mines of his favored West Virginia and the Canadian oil pipelines. He lived in many places across the U. S. , including Bowling Green, KY, for the last seven years, but always considered West Virginia his home. He enjoyed traveling and riding his motorcycle with Sheila. He and Sheila enjoyed quiet evenings at home, though the quiet was frequently interrupted by rousing games of Yahtzee. The family entrusted Cone Funeral Home with arrangements and chose cremation. There will be no local public ceremony and his remains will be buried at a later date in a private ceremony in West Virginia.
